Athens, Greece in 5 days

So we just got back from Greece, we had been there before about 10 years ago to celebrate my Husband’s 30th birthday so he had wanted to recreate this trip to ring in 40!

Our original plan was only to be in Athens for about 2 days, once when we landed from Chicago and the other time on our way back home. We had planned 2 days in Mykynos and 3 days in Paros but Mother Nature had other plans. After our 2nd day in Mykynos there was extreme flooding in Paros due to the rain/hail storms that took place overnight. We had to pivot our plans and cancel our ferry, hotels and transport in Paros and booked a flight back to Athens so that way we could stay safe on the mainland.

We were all surprised to see how much we enjoyed Athens and all it had to offer! My brother in law is amazing at finding all the top cocktail rooftop bars. His recommendations did not disappoint, we had a great time at all of these listed below:

The attic, Ermou 18, Barrus, Clumsies, Barreldier, Professore, The bar behind the bar, Rude lord and King George Hotel

We had so much fun doing all the touristy things, like visiting the acropolis, watching the change of guards in front of the parliament, visiting the National Garden (old royal garden) and seeing all the Koi fish, turtles, ducks and goats. We had a chance to visit one of the oldest chocolate shops in Athens,- Aristokratikon! They have been making chocolate since 1928 and it’s 6 generations in and they still make it the original way, it was not only delicious but so affordable.

We stayed at the Gatsby hotel and it had such a fun vibe, we had drinks and lattes at the bar prior to going out each night and the location was walkable to all the places.

We had such a fun brunch at Ergon House, The most amazing gyros at Tylixto, and delicious dinner at Ami’s and Ovio! Such a fun trip, interesting pivot but we made the best of it. Great way to ring in early 40 for my Husband!

Until next time Greece, we love you, your people and your food!

Living that Sourdough life

I started my sourdough journey as they call it a year ago and it was the best thing I could have done for myself and our family. I always wanted to start but the whole process and upkeep felt so daunting at first and of course there was always the thoughts in the back of my mind that if it didn’t work or I couldn’t figure it out, what would I do?

Well glad I did not let any of that hinder me and took the plunge! Now I make something “sourdough” weekly! I have successfully perfected Sourdough bread, Chocolate chip cookies, Sandwich bread and bagels. There have been weeks where I have been made 2 of these and that is not for the weak, baking and making is so much work. It makes me feel so good to know what me and my family are putting in their bodies and our digestion thanks us!

If you have been thinking about starting on your own sourdough journey, here are some pointers and I highly recommend starting, you will NOT regret it 🙂

First and foremost, you need a couple of items or have to plan on buying them because these are all necessities in doing it right:

  1. Starter! Yes, just like in the old time where people shared items, you are going to have to find someone who has been making sourdough and they can give you some starter.
  2. Dutch oven (4.5-6 quarts) We have a lodge and it has lasted
  3. Bread knife (so much easier to cut if you have a proper knife)
  4. Parchment paper
  5. Wide Mouth glass jar (I use a large sized Mason jar and it works perfectly)
  6. Food scale (each time you bake it will be slightly different and a food scale helps with weighing all the ingredients rather than measuring them, its more accurate)

I have made the process as simple as possible for me as I knew if it was not streamlined and easy to execute it wouldn’t become a habit for me and I am a creature of habit and routine!

There are many different ways you can approach sourdough for the hydration and I always have done a 1:1 ratio which means I always use the same amount of water to bread flour and it has worked out well for all the different things I have made.

SOURDOUGH BREAD AND BAGELS

I was lucky enough to find RunlikeKale on IG a mama who is the one who initially inspired me to make Sourdough and even mailed me a dry starter to get started. Ever since her, I have been dedicated and constantly use her bagel recipe and it never disappoints. She also sent me this bread recipe and it is FOOL proof. I have been using this every time and it’s so simple yet effective, makes a perfect loaf every time.

SOURDOUGH SANDWICH BREAD

For my sandwich bread, I have been using this recipe by the Clever Carrot and it’s been amazing. The dough is soft like a cloud and making it, is so fun. We have been eating it toasted with butter or of course making sandwiches with it.

I highly recommend you starting on your sourdough journey if you have been putting it off, it is SO worth it for fresh weekly home-made bread. Let me know if you try it and if you have questions!

5 days in Rio De janerio, Brazil

I got to experience this amazing city in January to ring in my 40th birthday! When picking destinations to celebrate this milestone I had narrowed it to a couple of spots in South America, I truly wanted to experience a new country, continent and see a wonder of the world. I was debating between Peru, Argentina and Brazil. I finally decided on Brazil and it did NOT disappoint.

WHERE TO STAY

Picking an area of the city to stay in was a no brainer as we were going during their Summer I truly wanted to experience the weather and the beach. My husband got to researching and ended up booking us the most amazing spot on Copacabana beach at the Fairmont Rio. We were treated with the most elegant and friendly experience. The hotel did everything they could to make us and me feel so special. From the moment we checked in, they had a room ready for us and then the surprises just kept coming.

FAIRMONT – RIO DE JANIERO

WONDER OF THE WORLD – CHRIST THE REDEEMER

I celebrated my 40th birthday on Saturday January 11, 2025 and that day I got up early and did a private yoga class with an instructor from the hotel on the beach, it was surreal and I was filled with gratitude the entire time. After yoga I went back to our room to get changed and ready for the day. This is the day I had planned to see the One of the Modern Wonders of the World, Christ the Redeemer and it was such a shameless experience. I had purchased the skip the line tickets from Viator and it was the best, highly recommend as we got there in the afternoon and saved over 2 hours with this purchase. We took an uber from our hotel and when we got there, they gave us wrist bands and then we were off to wait for a tram. The tram took us to the top of the mountain. From there we had to climb less a handful of stairs to get to the top. From every angle you can see the statue and it felt very euphoric and spiritual to be around it. After soaking in the moment for a while we headed down a flight of stairs to a restaurant/bar they have set up there and the views were incredible. You could see the entire city for miles.

PEOPLE OF BRAZIL

While my husband and brother in law were ordering our food and drinks, I found a table to sit at so we could eat and get drinks. While I was waiting, I started blowing up some number balloons that I had brought along and this family next to me with parents, 2 kids and a grandparent were all like “Is it your birthday” and I said yes, its my 40th. Without any hesitation, they sang me “Happy Birthday” in Portuguese. It was so kind and thoughtful and I could feel love emitting from them. Truly what a way to ring in 40!!

After we got back to our hotel, I told my husband I wanted to soak this day in before we got ready for dinner and we headed to the hotel cafe. When we got there, the barista says, I think it’s a special day and I was taken back, because how did he know it was my birthday, so thoughtful, it’s the little things. I ordered a latte for me and a cappuccino for my husband. We sat at the one of the lounge seats and they brought us our drinks with little candies and it was such a small but sweet gesture. I thought the surprises ended there. After we finished we headed up to our room to shower and get ready for Dinner that we had reservations for at Grado, thanks to Chicagofoodgirl’s recommendation and when we walked in, the hotel had a balloon and a slice of cake waiting for me! I was in awe and all I could think of was how grateful I was. I was filled with love from this sweet hotel, Fairmont rio, you have my heart.

SIGHTS TO SEE

Parque Lage

The next day we headed to Brunch at Teva which is a vegan restaurant and it was so good that we went back the day after as well! We rented some scooters and rode along CocoCabana beach and then grabbed an Uber to visit the Parque lage and ate at the beautiful restaurant, plage cafe. It was so beautiful, we then had a chance to lay out at our pool and enjoy the weather.

Library and steps

We took an Uber the next day to visit the Royal Portuguese Reading room which was a sight to see. It was so cool to see the oldest books and take it all in. We then headed to the famous steps of tiles, Escadaria Selaron and it was so unique to see all the pieces and take pictures. I will say this part of Rio was were we felt a little bit more on edge from a safety point so keep that in mind when you go!

We had such a great time in Rio and I can not wait to be back in South America in the future to visit more countries! Check out my LTK shop for all my outfit links.

Top Swim Suit Styles for Moms

With Spring break and warm weather right around the corner, it’s time to think about Swim wear or upping what you currently have! I have trued and tried these fits and they are great quality and last. The Spanx swim skort is a splurge but so worth it when you are lounging at the neighborhood pool or one in Mexico. I promise you will not regret it!

AMAZON Fits

I buy these as a set but only wear the tops, I love the ruffle look in addition to the fact that it cover my shoulders. It truly helps keep those sun burns at bay and has the perfect cut for those of us with ittie bitties. It is also perfect when you are with your kids because it doesn’t move and stays even they are grabbing you for attention or is that just my kids?! ha I add these bottoms from Amazon as well!

SPANX

Once I discovered that my all time favorite brand for good quality leggings and faux leather pants makes a swim line, it was all down hill from there. I found this amazing swim skort that is legit flattering on everybody! I don’t like my butt to hang out and these are perfect, I have tried dupes of swim skorts, shorts you name it from everywhere. These are quite a splurge but so worth it. They dry so quickly too and can easily be worn to breakfast, lunch when you are staying in a hotel. I have 3 pairs of them. I also discovered the rash guards and grabbed 3 colors and am obsessed with them when I want to protect my skin (as we all should) from the harsh sun in Mexico and most recently on our trip to Bora Bora!

There you have it, modest, comfortable yet chic (in my personal opinion) different options for a mom suit that won’t break the bank and will be used for years to come!

Check out all of these fits and more on my LTK Shop!

Magic Kingdom – Disney World, Florida

I have been wanting to take our kids to Disney since I had kids, lol I have gone once when I was a kid with my family and then again when my Husband- Bar and I were dating. It is such a magical place. We finally got the chance to take our kids to Disney in September 2024! I love when my work and family life collide, so I was asked to speak to Chiropractic students at Palmer Chiropractic College in Port Orange, FL so we planned to have my husband and kiddos fly in the day after me so we can have a little vacation and drive up to Orlando.

Leading up to our trip, I watched countless videos of Magic Kingdom, read numerous blogs and downloaded and studied the Disney World app. I wanted to make sure our first experience was as seamless and least amount of stress as possible and it WAS!

So here are a few things I learned:

  1. Disney has a lightening lane and it is a life-saver. We got access 3 days before our trip because we were not officially staying at a Disney property. We got access at 7am EST 3 days prior to our trip so I had an alarm set and got to work. I had researched rides we wanted to ride prior too and signed us all up for Aladdins magic carpet, Its a small world and the Haunted Mansion. I also paid for the additional lightening lane pass for my Husband and Son to ride Tron. Once you get to the park and Check in for your first lightening lane ride, you will be able to add another. So I did that the day we went and we ended up experiencing Peter Pan’s flight, Tomorrowland speedway, Monster laugh floor and buzz light year.
  2. I reserved Bibbidi bobbed boutique for our daughter to get her princess makeover 30 days before our trip and it was the most magical experience. I brought her own dress, she picked Cinderella and they did her hair, gave her a t-shirt and did her make-up. It was truly worth it and once in a lifetime experience for sure!
  3. I also wanted to make sure we were able to meet all the princesses so I reserved lunch at The Royal Table in Cinderellas castle. It was truly an experience, the food, the ambiance the magic was on point. We got to meet Cinderella, Princes Aurora, Ariel, Jasmine and Merida. The food was delicious, overpriced for sure -but it was a perfect meal for the middle of the day.
  4. You can get in virtual Que lines for Tiana and Tron so the morning off our ticket, I woke up early and booked Tiana right at 7am and we got a 945am slot!

STAY

We stayed off property at the Hilton Signia hotel in Orlando and it was the perfect place for us. Since we only were doing 1 day I knew we didn’t want to spend a ton more money outside of the ticket and everything else mentioned above. This hotel had an amazing Italian Restaurant, an arcade, a lazy river, a pool and water slides! The first day we got there we swam and relaxed because we drove in from Daytona and then the second day after Magic Kingdom it was great to come back, shower and enjoy the evening at the property. Highly recommend this hotel. They had a shuttle to take us to the Disney Monorail so we left at 745am and were able to enter the park right at 9am so seamless.

We had such a memorable trip to Disney World’s Magic Kingdom and it was such a seamless first time experience! I can’t wait to take the kiddos back to visit the other parks!

Rome, Italy in 4 days

My husband and I work to travel. We absolutely love going to various cities around the world to take it all in. We generally only do 1 city on each of the trips we take to absorb all it has to offer and really immerse ourselves in the culture. This trip overlapped with Spring Break for our kids so it was great since they were able to be at their grandparents house without having to worry about missing school! We did so much in our 4 days, we ate pizza and pasta to our hearts desire, drank all the amazing wine, shopped, saw an Opera and did a cooking class.

Where to Stay:

We are obsessed with the Hoxton hotels! We have one in Chicago and we have done a staycation there twice and it did not disappoint. It is located in the best part of the City and the ambiance is just beyond. When we went to Paris 2 years ago, since they have a location there we stayed at that one and we had a very similar experience. So this trip, as soon as I found out that Rome had a Hoxton we decided to book it and the stay was amazing. The hotel has an adorable cafe with the best cappuccinos you can find. In addition they have 2 bars on site with crafted cocktails and a restaurant that serves the best food! The location itself was a bit far from the touristy spots but that was a good thing for us as this was our second time to Rome so we didn’t need to be near them. Also, ubers are plentiful and it was so easy to get picked up.

Where to Eat/Drink

We had the best time exploring the city by walking and for our first night I had made reservations for the Court Bar which had a view that overlooked the colosseum. When I originally found and made reservations after seeing this on Pinterest I thought this spot might have been overhyped but it did not disappoint. The cocktails, the service and the aperitifs were on point and we had the best time!

The other reservation we made was for the Michelin star restaurant called Bistrot 64 Roma and it was definitely a show to remember. All the food as expected was thought out and delicious. We came here because we saw it on the Netflix series, Somebody feed Phil and he stated it had the best Cacio de Pepe. I will say, he was correct. It was the perfect blend of cheese and pepper and not over-powering at all. We had such a great meal, quite the splurge, but when in Rome.

Then we did an amazing Cooking class, for our anniversary our friends gifted us an experience so we used it towards this. We learned how to make Fettuccini, gnocchi and tiramisu! After we were done cooking it, we got to eat it with the other people part of the class and drink wine and enjoy it! It was so fun and amazing to see how truly easy it to make your own pasta and well worth it because the taste was just beyond!

Of course we ate a bunch of Gelato, I had one that was shaped like the Colloseum and it did not dissapoint. Wherever we go, we like to find a food hall similar to Time out Market because you are able to try many things or just sit and drink coffee or wine. My husband searched and found one called the Mercato Centrale, it had literally the BEST truffle pasta I have ever had in my life. It was so good that I had it twice.

For our last meal, we ate at this amazing Asian place called Zuma, its a chain in Europe and the food, ambiance and service was perfect to end this beautiful trip!

Highly recommend booking your next trip to Rome and stay at the Hoxton hotel!

Styling shorts

With the Summer season upon us, I have switched to shorts. Shorts are amazing because you can dress them up and down depending on the events you are going too. You can also easily mix and match each of the pieces. I also love shorts (hence why I also prefer tennis skirts) because you are still covered and can sit, jump, run, walk without having to worry about being exposed. lol. This is also actually the reason I personally don’t like wearing dresses or skirts.

Tailored Shorts

I have been obsessed with Shorts and a belt and lately have been obsessing over Abercrombie’s line of shorts. They are a great material that doesn’t wrinkle and I was able to snag a gray, blue and yellow pair on sale and paid full price for black because well you need black.

I have been pairing them with my black or brown belts and styling them has been a favorite this Summer season, I have linked all the looks on my LTK shop.

Faux leather shorts

I grabbed these Faux leather shorts from Amazon 2 years ago and they have been by far my favorite purchase. They are so comfortable and legit look good on all body types. I even wear them in the Winter with tights or when it’s cold. I have been dressing them down with my old navy t-shirts and up with a belt and designer bag. Great quality, I wash them like normal but hang them up to dry. Check out all these Fits in my LTK shop.

Jean Shorts

Every girl knows a great pair of jean shorts are a staple in your closet. I grabbed these from Amazon about 2 years ago and legit bought all the washes after wearing them. They have a great length especially in the back so you don’t have to constantly pull them down and they are a soft jean material rather than a tough one. I love the white and black pairs as well. And if you know anything about me, a blazer goes well with everything so added a blazer with my blue pair. All outfits linked in my LTK shop!

I have linked all these looks in my LTK shop and you can click the collections each look is easily accessible!

STYLING A TENNIS SKIRT

My uniform for spring and then definitely into summer is tennis skirts!

They are so versatile and you can dress them up or dress them down-the best part is they have shorts underneath and pockets!

Once spring hits, I love to pair them with crew neck sweaters or long sleeve tops. When it’s Summer I switch to short sleeve crops.  I have styled them with 4 different brands so if you have a pair you can be obsessed like I am.  I have tennis skirts from Lululemon, target, Alo and Amazon! Here is my roundup: All of my outfits are linked here in my LTK shop.

LULULEMON

Lululemon tennis skirts vary in style and I have been loving all of them. They recently came out with some gorgeous colors, and I had to get them all! I usually wait till they are on sale. It gets you a better deal! This year for my birthday my friend gifted me a black pair, which I was stoked about since those never go on sale.

Love dressing them up with cute shoes and a designer bag or dressing them down with my belt bag and sneakers! You can never go wrong.

ALO

I recently  purchased my first Alo skirt and the quality is great! I would say for me personally, they run a bit short. I am 5’8” which is tall but definitely not that tall. Don’t go wrong I am STILL going to wear it, but if you want to be conservative these aren’t the fit for you.

I paired mine with a crew neck another obsession of mine and it was comfortable to wear all day!

TARGET

Target tennis skirts are the most different of the 4 but easy to grab and try on, I mean who doesn’t go to Target multiple times a week, or is that just me?! I truly love the pockets and the length in the back. My only critique is that it’s has a draw string which then makes it hard to wear a top without it overlapping.

But of course, with that in mind, I still have a black and army green pair.

AMAZON

I bought my first pair from Amazon last year and it has become my favorite. It has cute pleats and of course pockets at half the cost of the other brands. I have 2 different variations and I get complimented on them all the time. Such great material and so great to wear in the Summer. I pair them with my crop tops from Amazon or I have dressed them up with sweaters. Love them with tennis shoes to really complete the look.

Hopefully this help you  to style your tennis skirts!

Matching sets from Amazon

I don’t know about all of you, but I love Amazon. It’s so quick and easy to order and it’s even easier to return. We have an Amazon fresh store near us and every time I bring a return, they give me a coupon. It’s a win-win for all!

I have linked all these outfits in my LTK shop.

There are many brands on Amazon that I am now familiar with and they have the best quality for an affordable price.  I got into these Amazon matching sets last year with the heat of our summer. I really wanted something that was cute and versatile.

Here I have rounded up matching sets for day and  night.  Currently with the Amazon Spring sale going on there are even more discounted.

Sweater and pants
This free people dupe has to be the first. It is so cute and comfortable and you can wear them separate or together! I added a belt to separate the two and I just truly love how this look comes together.

Sleeveless top and pants

Yes, I have the same set in two different colors. This is the yesica brand and I have their sweaters as well and they have the best quality. My favorite part about these sets is that the pants have a zipper something about the zipper on the side makes it more flattering.

They are the perfect linen material to wear in the summer I even wore one of them in the fall and added a Blazer.

Sleeveless top and shorts
These sets are so cute because they look high-end, but they are not. I love the color and style options with sleeveless and the shorts. Lots of different ways to style these.

Pajama sets
These pajama sets are such good quality that I’ve actually had them for over two years. They are a lightweight material so you don’t get hot and every time I wear them I get so many compliments because they just fit right!

Here you have it tried and tested and I can vouch for each of these sets. Hope you find your next favorite matching set from Amazon!

4 ways to travel in style

With the Spring break travel season approaching I wanted to compile my favorite travel outfits. They are stylish and comfortable. I have linked them all on LTK shop.

Triple Black

This look is one of my favorites because it’s all black. People who know me, know this is my signature color. I truly love that black makes you look high class without the spend. I need my loyal Samsonite suitcase, my hershel backpack (this is a splurge, but it’s a lifetime purchase) my Lululemon cross body of course and of course my oversized sweater from the BAR. I am always cold on flights so this is the perfect combination. And of course can’t forget about the infamous adidas cloud foam shoes, they are the best and so versatile!

Black and Gray

My second favorite combination is blacks and grays. If you came to my house you would also see our obsession with gray. I recently grabbed this long cardigan from Amazon after it went on sale and it is a travel dream. The best quality and it has pockets when purses and hands are just not enough. Of course I have the Lululemon crossbody in black and gray its a staple. My Michael Kors purse was one of the first gifts my Husband got me when we were dating, sadly I am unable to find this exact bag anywhere! My All bird shoes are the perfect travel companion as they are so comfortable!

Black and Brown

Of course blacks and browns are a staple combination. I love my Nike Court legacy shoes, they literally match with everything and pull together the outfit. Spanx has the best quality leggings but they also have this amazing cardigan, its so warm and the best part is that it has thumb holes! Of course the Louis Vuitton neverfull was my first higher end designer purchase that I have had for 9 years and it truly lives up to it’s name. You can fit so much in it, best travel purse!

Black and White

Of course the original combination of black and white never gets old! This duffle is amazing, its from Amazon and has SO many compartment. It comes with 2 laundry bags, shoe bag and has a shoe compartment as the zipper storage on the bottom. It was considered a carry-on so I was able to bring both my suitcase and the duffle with me. My On Cloud shoes are a game changer, so comfortable and are perfectly paired with my outfits for the trip as well. This Ralph Lauren jacket is one of my favorites that I snagged on sale from Nordstrom Rack because its light but keeps you warm in the Spring Months!

Love all these outfits and keep following along for my travel outfits as we are headed to Italy at the end of the Month. Follow my shop on LTK as I post what I wear and love on it every day!
